Independent Fire Services Review to report later this year

The Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner Kristen Hilton today said the confidentiality of the participants of the ongoing Independent Review into equity and diversity within the Metropolitan Fire Brigade and Country Fire Authority is paramount. Commissioner Hilton also said that the Commission has not released any Review information and will not discuss any content of the Review publically prior to its release.

“Our Independent Review is due to report mid-year. The Commission has not released any Review information,” Commissioner Hilton said.

“People will speculate but we owe the participants the respect of reporting with their confidentiality as our foremost concern. Their experiences will be heard in the full context of the report.”

“The Victorian Government has shown itself to be progressive through the Equality Agenda, promoting gender equality and in its commitment to safe and inclusive workplaces. This is further illustrated by the Government’s commissioning of this important Review.”

“When it reports the Review will provide a platform for reform.”

“Anyone who needs assistance or has any queries can contact the Commission on 1300 292 153 or visit our website. If you require support, please consider calling Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636.”
