Freedom from Discrimination: Report on the 40th anniversary of the Racial Discrimination Act

The Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has launched a national consultation report reflecting on the nation’s 40 years since the introduction of the landmark Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth).

The report brings together feedback and the findings from a series of commemorative activities held earlier this year, highlighting the importance of recognising and giving voice to the lived experiences of racism, and of maintaining and developing efforts to promote public understanding of the rights and freedoms protected by the Act.

The AHRC has also developed a range of resources aimed at raising awareness about the Act and how it can be used to protect against racial discrimination and vilification.
