The Commission welcomes Moana Weir as Chair of the Board

The Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission welcomes today's announcement by Attorney-General Martin Pakula appointing Moana Weir to Chair of the Commission's Board.

Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner Kristen Hilton said that she was delighted with the appointment and welcomes the wealth of experience and expertise that Ms Weir will bring to the role.

"Ms Weir has an in-depth understanding of the work of the Commission and a great commitment to ensuring that all Victorians are treated with dignity and respect," said Ms Hilton.

Ms Weir has first-hand experience working with the Commission after she was appointed as a board member in March last year, and has more than 15 years of board experience as a company secretary and senior officer of Australian Securities Exchange listed entities.

From 2010 to 2015, Ms Weir worked as the General Counsel and Company Secretary of SEEK, one of the largest online employment classifieds.

During this time, she was responsible for leading a range of diversity and inclusion programs including the development of a female career advancement program in the Finance team.

Ms Weir is now the Head of Legal for Regulatory, Consumer and New Zealand for healthcare company BUPA.

Ms Hilton also thanked outgoing Board Chair John Searle for his contribution to the Commission over his five-year term.

"I would like to thank John Searle for his significant contribution to the Commission and I wish him all the very best for the future," Ms Hilton said.

Ms Weir will commence her term on 23 August 2016.
