Commission welcomes Victoria's first ever Gender Equality Strategy

The Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission congratulates the Victorian Government on the release of its Gender Equality Strategy.

Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner Kristen Hilton said the strategy will go a long way towards advancing gender equality in Victoria.

"The Commission shares the Government's vision for a society that delivers equal opportunities for women, regardless of their background, religion, age or disability," Ms Hilton said.

"Gender equality is a critical social issue. The social and economic cost of gender inequality in Victoria is enormous.

"Every year the Commission receives hundreds of complaints related to gender discrimination and works with organisations across all sectors to create safe and inclusive environments for women and men.

"I commend the Victorian Government on its leadership and commitment to gender equality and reducing violence against women."

The Commission looks forward to working with the Government to implement the strategy and learning more about the reforms and initiatives announced at today's launch.
